Challenges of Participatary Culture

After watching the new media literacies I found an interesting topic within that web page. The name of the site was "Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture". This web pages was about building the field of digital media and learning. As I began to look around the page the topic that stood out to me most was "Why We Should Teach Media Literacy: Three Core Problems".
The three core problems with teaching media literacy were: the participation gap, the transparency problem, and ethnic challenges. The participation gap is the unequal access to opportunities, experiences, skills, and knowledge that will prepare youth for full participation in the world of tomorrows. The transparency problems are challenges youth face in learning the see clearly the ways the media shape perceptions of the world. Ethnic challenges are the breakdown of traditional forms of professional training and socialization that might prepare young people for their increasingly public roles as media makers and community participants.
It is important to get past these problems so that every child has the opportunity to learn about the new media literacies
